Laura Young

National Outreach Coordinator, ed K-12, NIC

Laura's passion for sign language and the deaf community started about 20 years ago doing community volunteer work. Since she started interpreting in 2000 in post-secondary education, community, medical, business, and a variety of other settings on-site, Laura has increased her fondness for working with such an extraordinary community and culture. She has been involved with those who are deaf and blind, learning tactile signing and leading techniques for those who are dual-sensory challenged. Laura has been working in VRS and VRI since 2008, and has enjoyed the challenge of facilitating communication with many "accents” across the nation. Her other interests include volunteering with the deaf and deaf-blind, as well as traveling, languages, and outdoors activities.
